  • NauticAles (Ramsgate) will provide a CAMRA meeting hub on Saturdays between 12 and 3pm where they will offer 50p off a pint (Ale and Cider)

NEXT EVENT - Social - Green Hop Fortnight - Saturday 23/9/17 AND Sunday 24/9/17 - Amend 18/9/17 13:10

Social event with a tour of some of Canterbury's finest pubs all to celebrate the Green Hop.

Saturday 23rd - Danny O'Sullivan (07757 721693) will be catching the 12.05 from Ramsgate Train Station (he will be carrying an umbrella). Upon arrival we will visit the Dane John Gardens where we spend some time at the Green Hop Stall (quite some time!!). Then onwards on a journey exploring some of the finest pubs in Canterbury to sample their wares.

Sunday 24th - Nick Gurr (07545 285658) will be on the 8X bus 10.15am from Cecil Square (Stop H) to Canterbury Bus Station arriving at 11.07am. A quick breakfast in Thomas Ingoldsby pub (Burgate) before venturing to the now famous Green Hop Stall to sample their wares. We will then head to the New Inn (Havelock Street) where a warm welcome awaits us as well as (hopefully!!) some surprise Green Hop beers from slightly further afield - Trinnie will be updating me nearer the time.

NATIONAL NEWS - added 1/9/17 - CHAMPION BEER OF BRITAIN 2019 PROCESS BEGINS

Strange as it seems the process for selecting the Champion Beer of Britain (CBOB) for 2019 started a couple of month ago when the eligible beers were  identified and now it is down to all members to vote for their favourite beers. All current CAMRA members are eligible to be involved.

The overall winners for all 11 categories (GOLDEN ALES, SPECIALITY BEERS, MILDS, BITTERS, BEST BITTERS, STRONG BITTERS, BARLEY WINES/STRONG OLD ALES, OLD ALES/STRONG MILDS, PORTERS, STOUTS & REAL ALE IN A BOTTLE) will be announced during 2019 at the prestigeous CAMRA events, the Great British Beer Festival Winter (held in Norwich Feb 2019 date TBC),  Great British Beer Festival (normally held at Olympia TBC in August 2019 date TBC) and the BBC Good Food Show Winter (venue TBC normally held in November 2019 date TBC).

At this stage all CAMRA members are called upon to select their favourite local tipples, the process is very simple, so if you want a say click here to go to the website where you can review the selections available to vote on based on your CAMRA branch.

What is Real Ale


In the early 1970s CAMRA coined the term 'real ale' to make it easy for people to differentiate between the bland processed beers being pushed by the big brewers and the traditional beers whose very existence was under threat. Real ale, also referred to as cask-conditioned ale, continues to develop its wonderful tastes and aromas in the cask through a process called secondary fermentation.
