LOCAL NEWS - added 06/02/18 - AGM SUMMARY

Thanks again to the Red Lion, King Street, Ramsgate for hosting our Annual General Meeting. Again the meeting was well attended and below is a brief summary of what was discussed:-

  • Jo Walbank welcomed all to the meeting and summarised key activities from 2017

  • Previous minutes were approved

  • The accounts for the branch and Beer Festival were approved

  • Brewery Reports - a buoyant year with much to look forward to in 2018 including new breweries due to open

  • Pubs Report - sad closures of the Sportsman Cliffsend and The Orb Margate - Under threat is Seaview Birchington which has been sold but it is unclear whether it will remain as a pub - Openings Cinque Ports Margate, Banks Ale & Wine House Cliftonville, Old Bay Minnis Bay and the new 39 Steps Broadstairs. A misture of opening and closing is Grog Wench Westwood closing, reopening as Falcon Inn before closing again.

  • Social Secretary Report - appointed mid-year Danny enthuastically embraced the role with many events taken place already and many planned for the future - see website for details

  • Membership - numbers holding steady at 500+

  • Election of Officers and Committee - the majority of the existing remained with a small reshuffle in the pack to move Jez from Membership to Treasurer. Jo remains as chairperson, Dennis is secretary, Steve looks after pubs and the Ale of Thanet magazine and takes over from Damien as vice-Chair, Nick remains as website and social media, Julian picks up Membership as well as pub protection, Danny is the social secretary and Graham remains as Branch contact.

  • Debbie was awarded the Dick Parkin Memorial Tankard for her dedicated service to the branch over 15 years as she steps down from her role as Treasurer. Many thanks Debbie........you are a star.
